Best Night Ever
Estée Lauder spokesmodel Gabriella Wilde dishes on her
evening beauty routine, a before-bed scent strategy, and her
no-fail, next-day brightening trick.
With email at your fingertips, nonstop group texting, and around-the-clock social media surprises and distractions, actually making the time to unwind and shut down at the end of the day frequently takes a backseat to just one more tour of your Instagram feed. But, logging your requisite REM sleep is all about establishing a consistent evening routine, so who better to advise us than those for whom beauty sleep is a veritable job requirement? In the final installment of our Best Night Ever series, Gabriella Wilde reveals how even new moms can still look like they got a full night’s sleep.
What is your nightly beauty routine?
I always wash my face, even if I haven’t worn makeup that day. Then, I apply Advanced Night Repair religiously, as it keeps my skin hydrated and radiant. I follow that with moisturizer.
You were recently introduced to the new Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask. When do you wear it?
I love using it when I’m on set. It’s really hydrating, so it’s great for prepping my skin before I go into hair and makeup.
Do you have any tips for getting a good night’s sleep?
I never take my phone or any technology into my bedroom. It’s important to wind down from all of that before I go to sleep. In drier climates, I sleep with a humidifier, which helps my lungs and my skin. I also like to sleep with fresh air, so if I can, I open a window.
How do you like to relax before bed?
Because sleep is so important to me, my bedroom is an oasis dedicated only to sleep. I keep all work-related things in a separate room. I also love scents, and I use a diffuser with lavender oil in my room, which always helps me to relax, or I’ll light a Jo Malone candle while reading in bed. I also try to meditate, even just for ten minutes before bed.
When you travel across different time zones, how do you keep skin hydrated and radiant on the plane?
I keep a bottle of my trusted Advanced Night Repair in my carry-on for some extra moisturization, because the airplane air is so dehydrating. I also try to drink as much water as possible and avoid any foods that will dehydrate me further.
Any tips on how to look rested when you don’t get much sleep?
My trick: dab Estée Lauder concealer in the corners of my eyes or use a white eyeliner on the inside rim to make my eyes look more open. To plan ahead, I’ll boil bags of green tea and freeze them overnight so that in the morning, I can apply them to my eyes to reduce puffiness.
How has being a mother had an impact on your sleep?
I have definitely not had as much sleep as I would have liked over the last year, and I had to adjust to my little one’s sleep schedule. When you become a mother, you can suddenly function on hardly any sleep because it isn’t about you anymore. I have been lucky, as my son is a good sleeper, and when we travel, he sleeps with me, which always eases the jet lag. It is also a special bonding time.
What is your idea of a perfect night?
Time with my family and something quite simple. I would put my son to bed, have a nice long bath, and then cook dinner with my husband at home. I’d watch a movie, then meditate for 20 minutes and get into bed. In the morning I would be awakened by a hug from my son.
Recognised for her roles in films such as The Three Musketeers and Carrie, the new campaign featuring Gabriella draws inspiration from British romance and highlights our deep-rooted heritage and unwavering royal connections.
The Forever Since 1775 campaign, shot by acclaimed photographer Bruno Dayan at the superb early 18th-century Antony House in Cornwall, marks a new chapter in Mappin & Webb’s history, featuring the beautiful Gabriella Wilde as our first ever brand ambassador.
Mappin & Webb’s role in authenticating the enduring love of others with its fine jewellery and timepieces is paralleled through this new campaign which draws inspiration from the world of classic literature. Bruno Dayan beautifully captures Gabriella’s natural and timeless beauty – a true reflection of everything that Mappin & Webb represents.
Gabriella Wilde is set to star in the latest season of the BBC 1’s hit drama, Poldark, based on the historical novels by Winston Graham. The series will be premiering on BBC in September 2016.
The unveiling of the Forever Since 1775 campaign and Gabriella Wilde as brand ambassador coincides with the re-opening of our Mappin & Webb flagship Regent Street boutique following a £2m refurbishment.
Earlier this summer, London-based Gabriella Wilde flew to New York to shoot our FW15 campaign. We caught up with the beautiful star on set in Brooklyn to discuss the campaign, her style and career…
What is it about rag & bone that resonates with you?
rag & bone has an understated coolness. It is chic with an edge which I love. I’ve always been a big fan of the brand, it appeals to my natural style.
What were your thoughts about the campaign concept?
I loved the concept. It was very different, a bit raw. It was really fun to shoot. I love the hardness of the images.
What do you like about New York?
New York has an energy like no other city in the world. I never really feel like it’s real life when I am there.
How would you define your style?
I have never followed trends but just like what I like. I usually prefer to dress in a simple way, but wear clothes that are well made. I’m not a girly girl and I often like to wear men’s clothing. My husband probably influences my style the most – I steal his clothes a lot.
When did you decide you wanted to become an actress?
I did my first few photoshoots when I was 14 with Isabella Blow and then Naomi (Campbell) took me to her agency – that’s when the work started to pick up. I moved into acting when I was 20 while I was studying painting at college.
What’s the best advice you have received so far regarding acting?
Nothing is wrong.
Is acting in your blood?
Neither of my parents are actors but they are both very artistic and my mother is certainly a performer in life. My siblings are a creative bunch too, so I guess it’s in us all from somewhere.
What kind of roles appeal to you?
Anything that rings true.
You have a beautiful son, Sasha. Has motherhood changed you in many ways?
Yes, totally. I can’t remember life or my outlook before I had my son. Nothing will give you more clarity in an instant than becoming a mother.
Finally, we noticed you have a tattoo on your wrist, is there a special meaning behind it and do you have any others
It’s the number seven. I am the seventh child in my family and it’s my lucky number. And yes, I have a few more…
I’ve added new pictures of Gabriella for Estée Lauder campaign Courrèges. I also added the print ads to our gallery.
Gabriella is the face of three Estée Lauder campaigns. She models for Crescent White we posted about this before. She also models for Nutritious Vitality 8 and the Courreges Estée Lauder makeup collection. All three campaigns were shot by Craig McDean in New York.
I’ve added a new photo from – I think Courreges Estée Lauder makeup collection – to our gallery.
